Technical Information

The Brahma Sutra website is available for Windows, Unix/Linux and Mac Platforms.

This site uses JavaScript,  PHP and MySQL.

Indian language fonts are displayed using Dynamic Fonts - PFR from Bitstream

The sutras and commentary are available in 11 Indian language scripts. We have used ISCII Database and on the fly Transliteration to 11 Indian language scripts.

We have used some java script for the client side, and php scripts, C, and C++ for the server-side programming. All requests  sent by the client are queried from the iscii database through php scripts. The iscii data is then passed through a C program that puts in appropriate font tags and converts the data from iscii to isfoc of the  chosen language script. Php scripts then create the html page,  complete with the font pfr  and send the page to the client.

You will need a Web browser that supports frames, JavaScript and Java (such as Netscape Navigator 4.0/ Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher versions)

To view Indian Language fonts you need following versions of browsers:

For Windows
                Internet Explorer 4.0 to 5.1
                Netscape 4.03 to 4.76

For Linux
                Netscape version 4.08 only.
